The "Yes on Empty Home Tax" Campaign is hosting a public launch celebration at Shanty Shack Brewery (138 Fern St) on Saturday, October 16 from 1 - 3 PM.
All are welcome to attend! Alcoholic, for those 21 and older, and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.
The event will have live music and a chance to hear from your fellow Santa Cruz community members to get us revved up to fund affordable housing!

1:30 - 2:00 Community Speakers to Launch the Yes on Empty Home Tax Campaign
Cyndi Dawson -Planning Commissioner and Campaign Volunteer. Cyndi will give a brief run down of the Empty Home Tax details, process to get on the ballot for Nov. 2022 and how you can take action and get involved to fund affordable housing in Santa Cruz.
Miriam Greenberg - Professor and Chair of Sociology at UCSC, Planning Commissioner, and co-author of "No Place Like Home" affordable housing study. Miriam will discuss the affordable housing crisis and how the Empty Home Tax can help.
Justin Cummings - City of Santa Cruz Councilmember and former Mayor. Justin will talk about how ballot initiatives can compel action from government and why the Empty Home Tax is pushing the conversation about housing justice and equity.
2:00- 3:00 Knotty Nate's Family Tree (feat. Nate Martisius of Dub Congress)
Attendees will have the opportunity to -
- Chat with campaign volunteers and get answers to any questions they may have about the campaign
- Win campaign swag at the Empty Home Tax Jeopardy Board hosted by Kayla Kumar
- Take photos at our selfie station to plug #EmptyHomeTax on social media
- Register to vote
